Woodturning lessons
Woodturning courses take place in my workshop in Nea Raidestos, Thessaloniki.
A remarkable range of tools is available, lathes of various sizes and capabilities as well as the necessary equipment to ensure a proper and safe experience.
Plenty of wood is available for turning and of course an unlimited supply of tea, greek and filter coffee.
Whether you want to experiment with a new craft, to take up woodturning as a hobby or you are still looking to improve your technique, I am here for you.
Warning! Woodturning is addictive, it could become one of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of your life!

Safety first!
While woodturning, we work with very sharp tools on machines that turn pieces of wood at high speeds, so safety is something that is extremely important to me.
That's why it's essential to always have the right protective equipment (head protection, a specialised dust mask and appropriate clothing).
(προστατευτικά γυαλιά ή προσωπίδα, καλή και εξειδικευμένη μάσκα σκόνης και κατάλληλο ρουχισμό).
Protective goggles or a visor and hearing protectors are provided during the course. Of course you can bring your own if you prefer. However, one essential item that is not provided is a dust mask, due to health and safety reasons.
I can provide tips and suggestions so that you do not waste money on bad purchases, concerning the protective equipment and anything else to do with woodturning.

Machinery and tools!
The workshop is equipped with three lathes: a Boston MC1080, a Boston MC1100 and my main lathe STRATOS XL from Neureiter Maschinen. Tools are sharpened on a Robert Sorby Pro Edge sharpener. A wide range of chisels and the necessary accessories for all stages of woodturning are also available.
Individual or two people courses!
The course is usually taught in one-to-one sessions or a maximum of two people per session. This ensures that the students receive my maximum attention and input. A larger number of students would result an uneven attention to their technique and practice, and individuals who work in different speed may not enjoy the creative process fully. Classes are suitable for ages of 15 years (with parent supervision) and up.

What is included in the courses?
There are a variety of topics that can be covered depending on the duration of the lesson and the student's level of skill. My main focus is the proper learning of the techniques and the appropriate use of tools. During the course different styles and types of construction, finishing and decorating techniques and tool sharpening are demonstrated. Without properly sharpened tools it is impossible to achieve a complete result. Projects crafted during the courses are yours to enjoy for a lifetime.
